DI-RECT will look for a new singer together with BNN!
Monday 27 April 2009
The media was full of it: the sudden decision of Tim Akkerman to quit DI-RECT. For the other band members a huge decision and a bg surprise, cause all of a sudden their future was at stake. But Spike, Jamie and Bas are not even cose to thinking of finishing off their successfull rockband, so together with public braodcaster BNN they will start their search for a new singer. A heavy job, since this person will not only face the challenge to fit in with the band on a musical level, he will also need to match three total opposite characters and be able to spend weeks in a row in a stinking tourbus with the guys. The 9-parted series will start on Sunday the 13th of September with BNN on 3.
Sold out festivals, international tours, a stuffed Award cabin and exceptional friendships. DI-RECT went through a lot in the past years, but most of all, they went to the top in the past ten years. The bigger the drama when leadsinger Tim Akkerman announced that he decide to quit DI-RECT to start focussing on a solo career as a singer-songwriter. Disappointed fans attented their last concert in Rotterdam, wondering if this was the end of DI-RECT. The three othe band members didn’t take long to come to the conclusion that the only thing they really wanted was to rock the stage, so they decided to go look for a new singer. A heavy job, cause finding a new lead singer is defenitely not easy. Not only does he have to have an amazing voice, he also needs to match the different personalities of Jamie, Bas & Spike and be a great performer.
The BNN programme about the search for a new lead singer will start with an episode covering the past ten years of DI-RECT. After that it will continue with four ‘documentary’-style episodes in which Jamie, Bas and Spike will take a road-trip with 2 singers each episode. The singers will endure the life of a rockstar for three days in a row: hitting each others nerves in a tour bus, performing on stage and going out after till morning falls. The one singer that does not make it in the end, will be asked to pack its bags and leave. The winning singers will go on to the live shows, where they get the opportunity to show all they have when it comes to playing and functioning within a rockband on this level. The live shows are presented by Coen Swijnenburg and Sander Lantinga. The audience can expect a musical journey with reality and live shows in which Jamie, Bas and Spike finally decide who will get the job of their life: becoming the leadsinger of DI-RECT.
